Marbles and Eggs

by Diane Juarez

My son raises turkeys for 4-H; this is our families 6th year in this project.

We start with 15 hens, for a 14 week project.

We have recently found a very useful, inexpensive tool with our new poults.

When setting up waterers, we put large marbles and/or glass decorative rocks (about 1/2 to 1 inch) in the water to help attract the attention of the babies.

We disinfect them first along with the waterers and change everything out daily until they graduate to larger waterers. These rocks are very popular in any stores that carry craft and hobby supplies, and in many different interesting colors.

In feed we chop up boiled egg whites very fine and sprinkle a little in the food to get their attention to eating. The only drawback is that we have to change food more frequently.
